The Mastercard Foundation is gearing up to host its inaugural EdTech Conference in Abuja next month. In collaboration with the Nigerian government, this biennial event will align with the African Union’s Year of Education, focusing on “Education Technology for Resilient and Inclusive Learning in Africa.”. Mastercard Foundation CEO Reeta Roy underscores the potential of technology to drive educational progress. “The conference aims to convene young innovators, policymakers, investors, and experts to discuss the current state of EdTech, emerging trends, and policy frameworks that support innovation in education,” he said.
According to the director of the foundation’s Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning, Joseph Nsengimana, it was important to invest in homegrown innovative solutions to enhance education delivery in Africa. He said the conference presented a significant opportunity for stakeholders across the continent, including South Africa, to collaborate on digitally enabled educational platforms that ensure inclusive learning for all.
The discussions and practical solutions shared at the event would emphasise the transformative role of technology in Africa’s education ecosystem. By driving progress in education through technology, the foundation aims to advance its mission of promoting education and financial inclusion for young people in Africa. This initiative aligns with efforts to support SMMEs involved in education technology, fostering innovation and resilience in the sector. They play a crucial role in driving innovation and expanding access to quality education, particularly in underserved communities.
By focusing on SMMEs during the conference, stakeholders can identify opportunities to support and scale these initiatives. This may involve providing access to funding, mentorship, and technical assistance to help these enterprises develop and refine their EdTech solutions. Moreover, Nsengimana said the conference would serve as a platform for SMMEs to showcase their products and services, connect with potential investors and partners, and gain valuable insights from industry experts across the continent.
The conference takes place from 8 to 10 July.
