When Rea Mafisa used an orange sack to scrub her body at a young age, little did she know that one day she would own a skin scrub business and her sought-after Ease Mobile Spa in Pretoria North. Mafisa’s never-ending love affair with scrubs began with the orange sack that she would scour her body with at home. However, it would flare up her skin because someone at home used it to clean the bath. “I made the sack look like a bath product. If you look at the sack, it was intended for carrying oranges. I molded it and folded it to look like a bath product, much more like the scrubs I sell, so that people would avoid using it for the bathtub,” Mafisa told Vutivi News.
Naturally stemming from her love of skin hygiene, Mafisa studied for a health skin care diploma from Camelot in 2009. “People need to use scrubs because, over time, the skin naturally sheds; sometimes it does not fall off, (and) it may stay on top of your skin. The dead skin cells are mixed with dirt and oils, preventing whatever product you might use from being absorbed through the pores properly,” she added. Mafika took the business route after a friend who was in the same industry suggested that they start a company. “It was challenging to find the perfect shape of Kgesti scrub. It took me about a year and a half to design a scrub shape. There were a lot more that did not work out. Getting the scrubs out there to people was also difficult,” Mafisa said.
She launched her mobile spa in 2014 and is on her way to celebrating a decade since Ease Mobile Spa started running. Her greatest achievement so far is being able to buy a car for her business. As for the Kgetsi scrub, she has other plans. “My hope for the future is to add complementary products to go with Kgetsi. Other services we offer are mobile spa services, namely massage, manicure, pedicure, and waxing in Pretoria, Johannesburg, and surrounding areas, to individuals, groups, and corporations,” Mafisa said.
